NCGPT's Enhanced Rural Training program provides registrars with options to develop specific skills and knowledge required for delivering rural general practice and advanced rural general practice.
It provides access and funding to rural orientation programs, special skills posts, advanced rural skills posts and competency-based skills courses designed to prepare registrars for rural and/or remote practice.
NCGPT provides individualised advice about the Fellowship of Advanced Rural General Practice (FARGP) as well as the ACRRM pathway. This may include placements in existing advanced rural skills posts, as well as tailoring a post for an individual registrar. NCGPT works with the NSW GP Procedural Training Program to provide such posts.
NCGPT arranges a mandatory Emergency Medicine course for all registrars working as Visiting Medical Officers in the emergency departments of small rural hospitals each year. Other registrars are also welcome to attend.
Other skills courses may include:
In addition, NCGPT provides access to clinical training grants to increase the quality and accessibility of clinical skills training. NCGPT may also provide subsidies to assist registrars in undertaking clinical skills training similar to, but not necessarily restricted to, courses below.
And other courses administered by the NSW Rural Doctor's Network.
Courses must be consistent with RACGP and ACRRM curricula, and be part of the registrar's learning plan to meet approval for funding. Funding is limited and made available as a reimbursement only, after prior approval by the Director of Training. For further details and funding approvals contact the NCGPT Director of Training.
NCGPT's RACGP and FARGP advisor is Dr Christine Ahern, Director of Training.
NCGPT's ACRRM advisor is Dr Linda Brown, Medical Educator.
