Aboriginal Health
The North Coast has a large indigenous population and a number of accredited community controlled Aboriginal Medical Services in Coffs Harbour, Grafton, Kempsey and Casino.
Working with, and supporting, indigenous people is both challenging and rewarding. The experience provides an opportunity to learn about the management of chronic and complex illness, with excellent support and mentoring. It also provides registrars with the chance to learn about a culture very different from their own, and to meet some truly remarkable and inspiring people. In this setting you will find a unique opportunity to really make a difference.
NCGPT encourages registrars with an interest to consider a placement working more closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
NCGPT has an accredited Aboriginal Health Advanced Rural Skills Post, based at Dharah Gibinj in Casino just outside of Lismore. NCGPT will explore posts at other Aboriginal Medical Services in our region, including Durri in Kempsey, Galambila in Coffs Harbour, and Bulgarr Ngaru in Grafton on enquiry.
