Hilton is a GP in Lennox Head, Northern NSW and has clinical interests in palliative care and acupuncture.
Hilton graduated from the University of NSW in 1982. The highlight of his medical career was spending a year as the Original Australian Travelling Barefoot Doctor, which involved a year's camping trip around Australia with his wife Sharon. During that time, Hilton travelled for 48 weeks, and did 4 weeks locum work in WA, which represents, what he believes to be, a pretty good work-life balance.
Hilton has been involved in medical education as a GP Supervisor and Medical Educator since 1990. He previously held the role of Director of Training at North Coast GP Training. After several years in this role, he chose to focus more on his teaching taking up the Senior Medical Educator role. This allows him to share his years of experience as both a clinician and an educator with GP registrars, supervisors and medical educators within the region.
As a teacher, Hilton is recognised nationally as having expertise in small group learning and doctor's wellbeing. In recent times, he has also developed programs which explore the interface of medicine and the humanities which have been presented around Australia and overseas.
Outside work, Hilton is a passionate father, cook and member of Lennox Head Sharks over 35s premiership winning soccer team.
