Educational Module for GP's Who Teach Medical Students

This educational module was developed by Dr Heidi Spillane, MBBS, FRACGP, GP registrar, North Coast GP Training, as an academic registrar project. The project was supported by GPET, North Coast GP Training (NCGPT), and the Northern Rivers University Department of Rural Health (NRUDRH). It was supervised by Dr Carol Stevenson MBBS FRACGP.

The CD Rom has been developed to assist GP teachers and medical educators who are involved in teaching medical students. The CD Rom is in three sections.

  • Section 1 covers organising the student placement, student orientation, overcoming barriers to teaching, patient consent and resources for students, teachers and reception.
  • Section 2 covers activating and engaging the learner, strategies for case based teaching, registrar teaching and giving feedback.
  • Section 3 covers implementing parallel consulting, procedural teaching and dealing with the student in difficulty.

For GP teachers, this interactive CD Rom provides strategies for time efficient teaching in the General Practice setting and are presented with the aid of role plays and video commentary. For medical educators, the video role plays, resources and articles may be used in teacher training workshops.
