Nicola is a part time GP working in Coffs Harbour.
Having been raised in Coffs Harbour from the age of 4, like all teenagers, she was forced to leave the country life for the big smoke of university. She graduated from Newcastle in 1994. Gosford provided excellent junior registrar support, and opportunities for travel and beach volleyball in her first years working in hospital. Having fallen in love with an amazing Irishman, Hubert, she went to the UK and worked in Paediatrics for 18 months (completing her Diploma in Child Health in London in 1999). She completed her FRACGP exams in 2001 and was awarded the highest mark in NSW.
Like Hilton, Nicola tries to keep a good balance of work and play, with as much emphasis on the latter as possible. She has been on multiple travelling trips in Asia, Europe and South America as well as cycling trips across Europe, Tasmania and New Zealand.
Two thousand and four was a year dedicated to "life" when she and Hubert took 12 months off to sail in a catamaran on the East Coast of Australia (pausing for a few weeks around the birth of their second child Kieran in April). Life on the high seas with 2 under 2 was a lot less stressful than working and can be highly recommended as a battery re-charger.
Nicola has always had a passion for teaching and as well as working part-time for NCGPT, has also helped overseas trained doctors study for their exams, and worked with the local division to give talks to teenagers at high school.
She returned to Coffs Harbour in her mentor term and is now snuggly settled down on their 50 acre farm with no intention to return to city life.
